Piece of cake anyone?

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Very happy that people seem to like my mini rainbow cakes as have received quite a few nice compliments :) I'll be serving them with ceramic plates and mini cutlery as necklaces and rings. I think the white plates are nice as a simple but elegant background for the colourful slices. Handmade using polymer clay and colourful sprinkles, these pretty coloured slices are enough to brighten up anyone's day! :) xx

Mini Rainbow Cake

So this weekend I decided to make some rainbow cakes to add a bit of colour to my collection. Continuing with the theme of whole cakes and slices of them, I've made some mini cakes using polymer clay which is my staple material. The round cakes (well, without a couple of slices!) each has 6 different colours including pink, red, orange yellow, green and purple. After stacking all the different coloured 'sponge' layers the cakes were then baked before they were frosted and decorated with sprinkles.

I also made a few slices with only 5 layers of 'sponge', these I'm planning to turn into rings. There are little heart shaped cookies as well. More pictures to follow once they are done.

I'm planning to use the round cake pendants for necklaces and the slices as earrings. They would look really cute as a set I think. What do you guys think?? :) xx

Trip to the Big Apple!

Just before Christmas my boyfriend took me to New York as a late celebration for my birthday! It was our first time in the big city and we enjoyed every minute of it. We spent a total of 6 days there but there was so much to do that we couldn't see everything that we wanted to so we've both said we must go back again at some point! It was bitterly cold when we were there so hopefully we can go again when its warmer.

As well as the usual touristy places like the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Centre, view of the Empire State building, 5th Avenue, Macy's, Bloomingdales and the Central Park we also visited other neighbourhoods that were a little bit different. We spent a fair amount of time in the East Village area where there were quite a few quirky vintage shops and a couple of great finds includes the Economy Candy which is a dream for anyone with a sweet tooth. All the sweets are piled high up in the shop and some of them are much cheaper than the supermarket. Almost any candy you can ever want is available in this shop! The Katz's Delicatessen is also a must when anyone visiting New York especially carnivores. The huge pastrami sandwich that we shared between us was mind blowing and there was an endless of pastrami in it! This is also where the filmed the famous lunch scene of When Harry Met Sally!

We also went to the Meat Packing District, China Town, Soho as well as Times Square and the Theatre district. There was just so much to see! Other highlights of our trip includes the cable car ride to the Roosevelt Island and a ferry trip to the Dumbo area in Brooklyn. It was nice to be able to see the skyline of Manhattan. There were some very nice boutiques in Dumbo including local designed clothing and fancy home ware. The one I spent the most money in was the West Elm Market which had a really nice selection of kitchen ware, they also have another shop around the corner selling home furnishing. We also went to the Brooklyn Flea market in Williamsburg but it was too cold and only 4 traders turned up as it was too cold! I was really disappointed as I had been looking forward to get my hands on some local designs!

We went to the famous Magnolia Bakery for some cakes and cookies as well as the Macaroon Parlour for some unique flavours such as candied bacon with maple cream cheese macaroon! I was also really impressed with a few of the restaurants that we visited during our trip. We had an amazing steak at Keens which is not far from the Empire State Building, some delicious frozen chocolate at the Serendipity3 and nice fresh lobsters at the Ed's Lobster Bar. If you want to sample a variety of cuisine then the Chelsea Market is the place for you. Lots of different small restaurants and cafe to satisfy your appetite!

Can't wait till we go back again! :D xxx

New mini bakery

Finally found a bit of time to make some new stuff for the site! First of all a round pink cake with white frostings and decorated with small pink hearts and sprinkles. This will be a pendant for a necklace and the 2 smaller slices will be for earrings. This cake took a little longer than usual to make because of the time it takes to make the perfect consistency for the frosting!

I used my Re-Ment miniature tray, basket and tongs to display in the photos. The glass cake dome was from an online craft store. As seen in the photos, there are some chocolate chip cookies which I will be using for earrings. The small chocolate cupcakes with cherries are small pendants which can be made into hanging earrings. As requested by a customer, I have also made some fresh new donuts for stud earrings! I've decided to make white and pink icing as these have been the most popular over the years. I've also experimented with some cruller donuts dipped in sparkly sprinkles!

What do you think of my new designs? I'll be making even more stuff very soon so watch this space! :) xx

New year, new site!

Since its the new year, its definitely time to refresh the website a little! This time I've opted for something a bit more simple with a clean home page rather than too much info all crammed together. This template is called Minimal which is one of hundreds on offer at Shopify. It's fairly simple to customise and I am quite pleased with the results :)

For this new website I've added the Tint tool to display my Instagram and Pinterest feeds. It gives me a nice and pretty platform to showcase some cute DIY projects and my own photos as well.

As well as my mini food jewellery range there will be some decorative stickers available, perfect for your new 2014 diary! Be sure to check them out on my new site!
